Heel Pain

Causes

Heel pain is most commonly caused by inflammation to the fibrous tissue on the sole of the foot called plantar fascia. This tissue becomes less flexible over the years and can become inflamed and irritated due to injury or our walking style - particularly those with a low (fallen) arched (pronated) foot type.

Symptoms

This foot problem is often very painful with dull aching and sometimes sharp pain around the heel and its margins. There is often characteristic discomfort when getting out of bed in the morning or after sitting down.

Treatment

Early intervention is advised. Treatment involves an assessment of your walking style, perhaps a course of stretches and possibly an inshoe device (orthoses) not an arch support , but a device that will help you to walk painfree.
