Athlete's Foot
Athletes foot (a fungal infection,) or to give it its official title; Tinea pedis, is probably the most commonly encountered foot infection.It is easily treated but is still very prevalent in the population which suggests it is often not recognised or correctly treated.

- This increases to 60% with the over 70 age group.
- Men are 3 times more likely to be affected.
- Smokers seem to be more at risk.
- Diabetics are at a higher risk.
Symptoms
Red dry skin between some or all the toes with or without itching and cracking, if untreated can spread to the sole of the foot.
What can you do?
- Proper drying between the toes removes infected material, and is a positive long term habit to acquire.
- Avoid going barefoot in public spaces.
- Choose natural fibre socks and shoes.
- Use an antifungal cream or gel eg Lamisil between all toes until symptoms are clear.
- Use antifungal cream once a week to help prevent reoccurrence.
